| - I have been a loyal fan of this place since 2008. My brother and mom live in the area and they are regular customers. To me, are more hits than misses. First off, I love this buffet over many of the others in town because of the prices which can vary from $8 for breakfast to $25 on Prime Rib and Seafood night, with discounts for most meals with a Player's card. And you can thank gamblers whose lost wages make the price lower than restaurants without losing gamblers. I love that buffets faster, no one screws up your order, and you don't have to leave a 15% tip. As regular customers, though, my brother, Mom, and I always leave $4-5 for our servers who all recognize us by now and always treat us well and know our drink selections and bring refills without asking. That's a special treat during the Saturday and Sunday brunch when the mimosas flow freely.
The hits include the brunch omelet bar when you can even order egg white versus whole egg...with a wide array of combinations. I always order everything in it, including melted cheese and jalapenos. Usually, their piles of bacon are crisp and not greasy. I also love the times they have Prime Rib, not the regular roast beef. which can be dry sometimes. The Prime Rib is great with fried rice or various potato versions. I enjoy the pulled pork in the Southern section with sweet yam casserole and collards. In the Mexican area, I like the tacho bar and menudo with a rich broth, and you don't have to eat the tripe if that's ain't your thing. The good soups are clam chowder and cream of mushroom.
And since most of us don't eat enough veggies, there are some decent choices such baked yams, plain boiled peas and carrots, Chinese stir-fried eggplant and bok choy, Italian style summer squash, and buttered carrots and green bean casserole when available. To me, their tastiest vegetable dish is the baked yam casserole. The roast pig night on Tuesday is great, and is a favorite with the large FIlipino community here in North Vegas. Thursday night is pasta night...they pile shrimp on their Fettucine Alfredo. The words "I'm on a diet" are prohibited on those nights.
Their salad bar quality varies with the seasons. Don't expect really sweet melon in the winter. The salad bar choices are good but somewhat limited. I would like to see more and variable prepared salads...But I like their cole slaw, imitation krab, and carrot raisin salads. Eat some jello, too....it's made from beef collagen and good for your joints.
The desserts selection and quality vary, but their pies, pastries, and cakes are usually decent though not particularly memorable. My favorite dessert when available is the chopped hazelnut chocolate bar. I also like their ice creams.
The misses to me include the orange chicken and sweet and sour pork. Anything deep fried with sauce on it is always gummy. But that's not just here, but almost anywhere. Their corn on the cob is rarely sweet. Their Alaska king crab I like but some say it's too salty for me. I don't like their burger patties that sit out. If you can't tolerate smoke, that might be an issue because smoking is allowed in this Casino, like all Nevada casinos. Most people don't smoke in the aisles walking to the buffet, though. And their air filtration system is state of the art, for what it's worth. Also, there is no bathroom in the restaurant, so bring your alcohol wipes or wash hands before entering.
The lines can be long during Mother's Day, night time, and weekend brunch. If you ever have a large party, please talk to them know beforehand and don't go during the busiest time. We once had 15 people at 11 AM and it was a fantastic time. And if you have any handicapped person in your party, they try to seat them ASAP.
But really, the best thing to me is the service of the staff. A few of them come up to my mom who's been a regular customer since 2008 and give her a hug or a warm hello. The value is overall pretty good. When unlimited breakfast is $6 with beverage if you have a Player's Card, for the price of a fast food breakfast, it's hard to beat.
