Please read all the way through:
Googled Two Men and a Truck (Scottsdale) and thought we were calling them - we later found out that they have a tag line, Two GUYS and a Truck, and that's why it showed up in a search; it was our mistake, because we didn't look very close, thinking we had the right number.
When first speaking on the phone we ask if they were Two Men and a Truck in Scottsdale, and they said "YES!"
They said they were available Friday, and would arrive between 8 and 9 am - we actually got all this from Tony, the owner, who stressed he had been in business since the late 60s. He said he would do a wonderful job for us, and he'd charge 79.99 an hour, and there was no trip charge, no hidden fees, that he was very professional with a great track record.
Tim called to formally set up the appointment, and told us that Tony was wrong, it was 89.99 an hour, that there was a trip fee, and that the whole transaction had to be in cash! That should have been the first red flag (but we felt like we were committed, and didn't think too much about it). Tim took our reservation, said they would arrive between 8 and 9 on Friday, and ask, since it was Wednesday, if we wanted to confirm right away. We said yes, and kept packing.
We were ready the morning of the move, and by 8:45 am I was getting anxious since we hadn't heard from any driver when they'd be arriving. I called and spoke with Tim, who said drivers were on their way, and should arrive in just 10 to 15 min, to call back if they weren't there. 9:20 am came, and no movers. I called Tim back, who acted like we had never spoken, ask me for a confirmation number (which I provided), and then ask if our reservation could have been under any other name than my own. I said no, and he then told me that someone had crossed off our reservation on their schedule and that he had to "rattle some cages" to fix the problem. He said he would call me back in 10 to 15 min. No call.
I called back at 10:40 am - I got in touch with Tony, the owner, who answered the phone. He acted like he and I had never spoken, too! He then proceeded to tell me that it was my fault, that I must have called back to cancel the appointment. When I told him no, and challenged him, he then told me that his dispatcher, Tim, was a 53 year old child, and he had taken the phone away from him. He went on a tirade about how he wanted to fire him, and told me that he couldn't do that, that he couldn't do anything, that "back in the old country, Saudi Arabia, he could cut his fingers off, or his arm, or cut his throat, but he couldn't do that here." He also mentioned he had just finished getting rid of a bunch of drug addicts who worked for him...
I freaked out. I started googling his number, and found out that he was actually Movers of the Valley and had horrible ratings, and horrible customer service.
It was at 11:00 am that a driver, Larry, called me saying that he was 25 to 30 min away. By that time I was on the phone with another mover. I scheduled them, Skinny Wimp Moving Co., Patty, the woman who answered was a godsend.
I called the driver back, but his phone said it wasn't accepting calls. I then called Tony, but instead Tim answered, and told him that we hired another mover, that their service and record was unacceptable. I ask Tim call his driver because I couldn't reach him.
Larry, the driver, arrived at 11:35 am, and I told him that Tim should have called - he told me Tim hadn't called to say anything. I told him that he was not moving us, that his company had been fired.
Larry was very apologetic, and said he completely understood, and said that the company often ran into this issue. He left.
At 12:15, Larry called me. He said Tony was insisting that he collect a trip charge of 79.99 because they drove all the way from Mesa.
I told him he was not getting any money from me, to have Tony call me if he wants to discuss.
SERIOUSLY, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. PAY JUST A LITTLE MORE AND REMEMBER, IF YOU TAKE SHORT CUTS, YOU'LL GET CUT SHORT. HORRIBLE.
