  • This used to be an Asian market that struggled in the area, but I'm glad La Tapatia Market kept the Asian market needs in mind. I decided to give the market a try since I was near by. It's very clean and they managed to utilize the small space quite well. Right when you walk in, there is a cashier in the front and another one to the right. There is fresh produce and fruit towards the right of the store. The prices for some of the fruits and veggies can be extremely affordable. I was able to find one of my favorite apples that is in season (Opal apples) for 2 pounds for 99 cents while another main chain I just shopped at had it for $2.99/pound. The store has a good variety of Latin, South American, and Hispanic products. From the popular brand Goya they have a lot of their canned goods, seasonings, and spices. The freezer section has some El Salvadoran snacks, Filipino sausages, frozen lumpias, Filipino ice cream (Ube flavor available!) and other frozen goodies. The shelves are neatly arranged with price tags that matched up to the products. Which is nice, considering sometimes mom and pop shops can be all over the place. There is also a hot food section towards the back next to the meat section. The workers are so nice in all the departments actually. I've had the birria soup which was made out of beef. Super hearty with big chunks of tender meat. Cilantro and onions were not included, but that's ok. I also only asked for half of the larger container it came in and that was still a lot of food. I also got to try their menudo soup, but this time I went for the full container so now I have seconds and probably third servings. This time a different worker gave me cilantro, onions, lime in a little bag along with some tortillas. Yum and yay! I will ask next time. They also have pozole soup which has hominy in it, but I will try that next time. Their carne asada fries and tacos are really popular too. Definitely a good stop for lunch or dinner to go. I also recommend a visit to their meat section. It is very clean and fresh. The prices are very reasonable too. I really liked the marinated boneless chuck steaks. Well seasoned, cooks fast(if you have a grill it's amazing), and affordable. The chicken, marinated or not, is also a great value and is very fresh. This would be the spot to get meat for fajita dinner night for sure. The Asian section is not too bad either. There is mostly the basic and staples. Such as seasonings like fish sauce(but not like 15 varieties of it), curry paste, Jasmin rice, stuff for halo halo, and more. There is not a bakery section due to limited space, but towards the check out is case for sweet breads like conchas, cookies, and croissants. There isn't pricing on the display, but my custard filled pastry was $1.25. It was very tasty and not too sweet. All in all, I'm so glad the area has a new little market with a good variety of ethnic goodies. Prices are fair if not better on some things and I don't have to drive across town to find some of these "specialty" pantry items. This is a good store to grab and go without the huge space or lines. Everyone I have encountered working there is friendly and helpful. Stop on by and give it a try!
