This review is for 02/11/2012. I don't see what all the fuss is about. The lake side view is charming but that's about all. Maybe this place is better for sipping wine and eating salads? Meh, I've experienced better is exactly how I rate this establishment.
I've recently spent a lot of time in France and have some problems identifying any similarities with the restaurant and quality French cuisine. It's almost criminal how much this place costs for subpar food.
I felt the mussels I ordered were dry and slightly over cooked. The sauce was bland and only in the bottom of the tiniest bowl ever to fit the portion. You want good mussels stateside? Try the ones in a champs vegetable cream sauce @ Rue de Jean, in Charleston, S.C. I thought the escargot which I was dying to eat again, was the worst offender here! Completely under seasoned. It was so unlike what I ate in France. Consumed in too much parsley and a bland clumpy butter sauce that got cold and re solidified. Yuck. These two dishes are simple, yet elegant in flavor. What happened?
The main courses were average at best but not fabulous. Especially for the price. The service was a little slow but friendly.
On a brighter note! I did think the best part of the evening was rummaging through the wine selections in the store front of the restaurant. I recommend arriving early to your reservation to have time to pick out a fantastic wine to accompany your meal. A nice le vin rouge can really make it fabulous. If you can't finish it just get it corked to take home.
