| - Waaaay long ago, Planet Hollywood use to be the Aladdin - we even saw remnants of it in the sink fixtures in the hotel rooms and with the style and décor of the Miracle Mile shops (the desert-like bazaar). With the change to Planet Hollywood, each room is Hollywood themed with black and red décor, making the room sort of dark.
Since this spring, they've been renovating the rooms and the room I stayed in for my June trip was in one of the renovated ones, now called Ultra Hip (the pre-renovation room is called Hollywood Hip). This makeover now makes the room look more modern with more natural light coming in, making it less dark than the prior décor. I like this change and prefer this look over its predecessor.
I didn't look for their fitness center, so I don't know where it is. The pools, however, are a skippable amenity for me. We wanted to hit the pools before our room was ready and headed there once we got a dummy key from the front desk. There are two pools, one with a live DJ playing and mostly for adults, and another that's more kid-friendly, but both were packed on Friday afternoon and both had little shade! The walk from the entrance to the pools is mostly rows of lounge chairs and cabanas and even here, it seemed like you're walking through the desert (no shade) to get to the pools.
Entrance to parking is off of Harmon Ave, which I love because you don't have to fight with the traffic struggles of Las Vegas Blvd. You can also enter/exit off Audrie Street, though it's not as obvious an entrance as on Harmon. Parking at Planet Hollywood is still free so far! Woohoo!
Their $35 resort fee covers wifi, fitness center access for 2, and local calls.
I love its central location on the strip and you can't beat the location if you're in town to watch a show at the Axis theater! It was so convenient to walk down for food around Miracle Mile before a show, go back up to the room to enjoy the food with TV, come back down to see the Backstreet Boys at the Axis without having to account for time to travel along Las Vegas Blvd and park a car, and go back up right after with minimal walking!
