  • An absolute letdown. I've successfully completed most of the rooms at the Markham location, as well as Shutdown from this location and they were excellent escape room experiences as I've come to expect. However, my run of The Red Admiral left a souring aftertaste and staved me off escape room for months. The production value was great (as expected); the puzzles were O.K.; the execution on the side of the gamemaster/room failed horribly. Without giving away specifics of the room, there was an instance where we entered the correct solution (confirmed by gamemaster) and the intended following puzzle/component failed to trigger. This left us scrambling around for previous clues/game components to try to rethink the puzzle, wasting valuable time. Another instance, a later game component triggered too early, leading to confusion as to how all the pieces of the puzzle fit together and how to approach the problem. All we got in compensation was a handful of minutes extra to solve the room. Some of the puzzle components were asininely simple and others were unnecessarily overcomplicated (ex. switch in matching components to kill time) leading to a frustrating cycle of over/underthinking. It was a huge break in the immersion factor and many of us were left apathetic as to whether we solved the room or not. I'm not sure I'd come back to this branch of Omescape again. They need to re-evaluate their workflow and the execution of their room mechanisms. How disappointing.
