| - My flat white came with a well-executed flower in the foamed milk. (I had thought that flat whites didn't include foamed milk, but without the foamed milk I wouldn't have had the opportunity to appreciate the flower [tulip, I think].) Ok, this concludes the positive part of the review.
The flat white was just OK. It didn't seem like much attention had been paid to it. And it was smaller than any other flat white I'd ever had.
Then there was the "premium" sandwich - bocconcini, tomato and pesto on a ficelle. The bocconcini were not flavorful, the tomato was anemic, and the pesto tasted washed-out. I asked for salt. No salt anywhere to be had.
Finally, if the staff cared at all about my experience at the Dark Horse, their expression of it was too subtle for me to pick up. Yes, it's a coffee place but, at least when I was there, not a busy coffee place. I think I can understand why it's not so busy.
Finally, it was expensive. I wound up paying $12 CAN (this is approximate) for aggressively mediocre food in an atmosphere that felt unwelcoming to me.
