  • I typically like the Marriott family of hotels because I get a brand consistent experience with each hotel I stay in. While the trappings of this place were the same as other Marriott's, it was a little disappointing. The lobby and entry area were very nice, clean and updated. The staff was friendly and helpful. All was off to a good start, but gets more to "meh" from here. I did request a room away from any large groups since I needed to make sure I got a good night's sleep. There were quite a few students (I think college) who were milling around and ended up being loud throughout the night. Mainly just spurts of laughter and doors slamming, but it was enough to be obnoxious for what I was paying for the stay there. I can't imagine that the hotel was so full that I couldn't have been placed further away. Judging by the parking lot, the place could only have been 1/4 of capacity. Speaking of the room, it was an icebox when I arrived. It was 30-something degrees outside yet the heating unit was completely off when I arrived, and felt like it had been for several days. I understand wanting to save on heating costs for unoccupied rooms, and I wholeheartedly applaud attempts to be "green" but I was chattering and shivering for a good 30-60 minutes as I waited for the room to heat up. I'm pretty sure the hotel is non-smoking, but there was a musty, smoky, "old" smell in the halls and especially in our room that made me think someone had violated the no-smoking policy and the room hadn't been properly recovered. I wished more than once that I had a wall plug in to help cover up or eliminate the grossness during my stay. As other reviewers have noted, the linens are super rough here. The towels felt like sandpaper (probably a combination of cheap towels to begin with, and lack of fabric softener making it all worse). So, overall I was a little disappointed in this particular hotel. It was not consistent with my most recent stays at Courtyard hotels, and not one I will be recommending for visiting friends anytime in the near future.
