  • The Great Shuffling is upon us, dear reader. In the age of nostalgic reminiscence for such artifacts of yesteryear as Zima (which turns out to be fairly tasteless) and LPs (which Sony has promised to begin reprinting in earnest later this year), its no surprise that an arcane game like Shuffleboard has returned to the fore in Cleveland. And no, it isn't just for geriatrics on cruise ships. Not anymore! It's been reclaimed and made hip. The Forest City folks offer both the traditional and tabletop varieties in a large industrial setting that tends to get loud with shouts of triumphant and laughter on Friday nights. There's a bar in the front with thoughtful cocktails (the tart, rum-forward St. Pete Elite is a zesty summer dazzler and the Float Your Boat is essentially a grown up milkshake). Service is fast and the bartenders are affable. Shuffleboard itself is absurdly compelling for its simplicity. Almost zen-like, and one feels goofier and freer wielding the shuffle stick than they might holding something as quotidian as a pool cue. It's $7 per person per hour to rent a court, and worth it, as you'll probably get through three games in that amount of time. While one wonders what games might be resurrected next in our fair city (rackets? cribbage?), for now we lustful young folly-seekers Shuffle along with pride.
