| - I've been to 90% of the sushi restaurants in the Phoenix area and Hiro is always my baseline comparison. You can always tell if it's a sushi restaurant with true Japanese influence if they have good saba, hotate, and toro. Also, you can always tell if it's Americanized or not based off of how many rolls have cream cheese...out of the 18 rolls only 2 have cream cheese (and of course it's the Vegas roll and Philly roll). And c'mon they have an actual Japanese language menu, it doesn't get much more authentic than that, does it? Our routine order here is: Saba, hotate, hamachi, albacore, inari, zaru soba, hiyayakko (or agedashi tofu on a cold day), and of course a lovely, cold Gunma beer! I dare you to try that order and not walk out with a big smile on your face. To really get the full experience go with just 1 or 2 people and sit at the bar and chat with your sushi chef. Trust me, you'll have a great time!
