  • I decided to do something different before writing this review. I've panned through a good dozen or so reviews on Nick's Diner. I am in disbelief that this place is as highly rated as it is. I presume it's comprised of mostly family and friends schilling this establishment. I haven gone to this restaurant a total of two different times (on two completely different occasions) to try some of the same and some different food items only to be left to wonder what did I eat. Moreover, did I really pay that much as well for what I bought? Off to the nitty gritty details. Firstly you walk in and notice the restaurant is dark. Keep mind it is Surprise, AZ, but seriously, it's so dimly lite for such a small eating space. Next thing I've noticed is that it's never really busy. Service is, on the slow side. Staff seems to be stressed by their manager. The staff acted as if they were rushed and overworked however, the restaurant was maybe 20% occupied. I've been to many other bustling other eateries where staff is constantly running back and forth on their feet and are welcoming to serve patrons. Here, not so much. Next, is the food. It's reminiscent of Aramark or Sysco foods. I ordered the gyros with a side of coleslaw. The serving portion was big, but it tasted sweet. The gyro sandwich was definitely off (this was not a Kronos gyro). The coleslaw was not tasty, fresh or edible. I also ordered the charbroiled chicken dinner. The chicken was bland, dry and pressed to the point it wasn't recognizable. It came with a side of rice. If it wasn't for the sodium/msg it was loaded with, well, it was definitely a salt mine. The dried, possibly freezer-burned vegetables looked as if it came from a bag. I steered clear of them for that very reason. Lastly is the cost, for the food offerings, I thought it was overpriced. Surprise, AZ is comprised of a sprawling elderly community and some young families and quality of food definitely was not on par with food costs. It didn't stand out to me that I would want to eat here again based on quality of food and overall cost.
