| - This Asian supermarket was superior than its competitors in three ways. A. The eatery B. More organic items C. Wider cultural representation other than Chinese.
A. For y'all fans of the eatery at Cam, I have a sad news for you - the eatery is not in operation anymore. It was shocking to me because I've been coming here for 7 years, mostly because of the eatery. The grocery shopping was an added bonus.
I chatted with the employees to express my disappointment. They said the owner closed it because it was not profitable, but it seemed weird to them that there have been a lot of customers like me, came asking about the eatery.
The store started serving crepes next to the eatery a short while ago. They still keep the crepe running even though the eatery is closed. I suppose it's profitable. The crepe stand newly adds a new item, as shown in my picture - ??? ground meat (pork?) in a sesame bun. The meat is flavorful; the bun...did not win my mom's approval. She is somewhat a "dough snob" (see my Szechuan gourmet review).
B. The supermarket now has a dedicated aisle of organic inventory next to the fresh produce section. In the produce section there are organic eggs and 3 types of organic mushrooms, product of Canada. None of the other Chinese supermarkets in Cleveland can match this scale.
C. Unlike other Chinese grocery stores in the Asian town area, Cam dedicates a good portion of its inventory to other food culture besides Chinese. More Japanese, Korean, SE Asian, middle eastern, Eastern European, Russian products can be found here.
I plan to email the headquarter about the eatery. It is a loss of authentic inexpensive Chinese good eats on the east side.
