| - Finally, a Lucy-approved doggy hotel!
Here's the truth: Lucy is a spoiled, luxury-hotel kind of pup. When we travel, as long as it's in driving distance, we try to bring her along. She loves the car ride, but even more, she loves the finer things in life, like sprawling out on a cushy hotel bed after a long hike or trip to a Cheeseburger Window (what she believes drive-thrus are called).
Unfortunately, Lucy can't come along on all of our trips, and when we make our yearly trek to California, we have to find a place to board our pup. Thankfully, on a recommendation from some Hello Bully friends, we found K9 Kingdom, and we have not looked back!
We get Lucy the 'VIP stay' (of course! see previous comment about how spoiled she is lol). VIP stands for 'Very Important Puppy' and includes three special treats a day (Wagga-Latte - which is 'doggy coffee' - frozen Kong, treadmill runs, snuggle time, or group play, plus a private run through the doggy park). Since Lucy's a little scared of other dogs, the staff makes sure they lavish her with attention and pets and cuddles, in place of her romping with the other pups.
K9 Kingdom also helps us over-extended dog parents out by taking care of her grooming needs during her stay. She gets her toes trimmed, and comes home smelling lovely after a bath on her final day of boarding.
For me, the difference in K9 Kingdom and other places we've boarded Lucy in the past is that Lucy never hesitates to go off with the staff when we drop her at the kennel. The wiggle-butt starts as soon as she sees some familiar faces at K9 Kingdom, and we feel confident leaving her there because she feels so at ease with all the staff. At previous kennels, Lucy has panicked at drop-off time, sinking to the floor, crying, trying to follow us out the door. Not at K9 Kingdom though: she just looks back with a little 'see ya, Mom and Dad, I'm off on MY vacation!' glance.
When we pick her up, she's exhausted for days, so I know she's getting good exercise and playtime at K9 Kingdom. And never once has the staff laughed at me for being the overprotective dog-parent who calls several times during our trip to say, "Hi, this is Lucy's mom, I just wanted to see how she's doing!"
Oh also, the hours at K9 Kingdom are great. You can pick up and drop off your pup between 7am and 7pm on weekdays, and 10am to 3pm on the weekends. Lots of flexibility to fit your schedule and make sure you don't have to spend any unnecessary time away from your pup-child because the kennel was closed.
They also have a loyalty program, so after 10 punches, she gets a free night's stay! The prices are very reasonable for all the services she gets on her stay, but most importantly, you can't put a price on the peace of mind that comes with returning home to an exhausted, smiling, satisfied pup!
