  • A place like this wouldn't be able to thrive without another form of income- catering in this case. Now that you're informed, I can you give a proper review. Quite honestly, the directions on yelp confused the heck out of me! I kept going around in circles and finally found the place. I was like, duh, once I saw their sign from the street. It's located on S. Main Street right next to the Cashion's Gas Station. A big house. You can't miss it (if you have the right directions). Walking up, it reminded me of a popular reception house down in Charlotte, and I felt really welcome. Plenty of outside seating on the patio if you want to be a Starbucker without the Starbucks. And you'll soon figure out that you want to be. Cupcakes. It's in their name. Coffee. Once again, it's in their name. I always think of hybrid shops like these to have just a focus on one section of their supposed dual fortes. Quite surprisingly, this husband and wife duo have both halves covered. Yes, this is a small business; it already gets high-marks on my ratings. The wife was busy in the back baking away and putting the final dots and I's on the cupcakes for one of her clients. They were pretty. As were all of them in the display. I personally don't want to go to a cupcake place that sells over 8 kinds of cupcakes on a certain day. It just doesn't seem right to me. I want to eat according to the baker's mood for that certain day and know that it is fresh. Am I not right? And that's what they have here. I went back sometime afterwards and found a different selection. Now, that's what restaurants should really do. The cupcakes look gorgeous. No quivering hands laying down the icing or decorations. A finished touch to each and nothing flamboyant or gaudy. I, not knowing what goodness was awaiting in the center, chomped down on a quarter of the lemon cupcake. Halfway through, I find something of a shock. No, not a servered thumb, but a lemon custard. The perfect balance to the sweetness of the icing. Just wow. I was expecting a Polka Dot cupcake, but it was nothing like that. This actually had a uniqueness that I haven't experienced from other speciality shops. Goodness comes in proper sizes, folks. Onto the coffee. I'm reading through a lot of the other users reviews and found that not many have tried their coffee. Sometimes, you have the time to want to watch your coffee being made and not being dispensed from a massive coffee barrel. Chris has a passion for coffee. He competes in tournaments! I'd say he's got some skill in that department. He doesn't have the fancy title of "barista" and why would he? He knows what coffee is. From the beans to the cup, he has in some way influenced that cup you're soon going to be holding. He uses a pour over method, which is something nobody in Charlotte does (as far as I know). Let's just say there is a difference compared to your typical coffee joints. And one experience that needs to be on your bucket list. Heck, you may even convert over. This house gave me a new experience in a market that has become so over-saturated due to TV shows and fads. It isn't a fad for this couple. It's their passion- one that overwhelms your senses the moment you walk onto the porch. P.S. They have an art gallery upstairs and throughout the house pieces are for sale.
