Can't believe I've lived here in Pittsburgh as log as I have and I've just now experienced Oakmont Bakery. I've always heard great things but its about 35 min from me so it felt too much out of the way. I was excited when I found out it was right by the Oaks Theatre which I was going to for Cinebrunch this past Saturday.
I feel like I should start this off by saying I'm truly not a huge sweets person at all. Immediately upon arriving I was already blown away by all of the options. No wonder this place gets so crazy! After taking my number I wandered around for a little bit trying to scope out everything they had and make a decision before they called my number. After much debate I decided I would get a random assortment of mini pies/tarts, cupcakes, and macarons.
As soon as I got home I had to dig in and try some of these goodies. I ended up getting one of each of the macarons: salted caramel, pumpkin, pistachio, almond, chocolate, razzberry, and peppermint. All of them were absolutely amazing and I would highly recommend them. Not only because of the taste but because they were actually the cheapest macarons I've ever found. Typically macaron shops sell them for a bout $2.50 a piece and these were $1.25 which makes it easy to try them all.
The cupcakes I went with a chip and a godfather (espresso). Both were definitely tasty but the chip was out of this world. I was ready to eat my boyfriends half if he didn't act fast enough. I wasn't overly impressed with the godfather but it was still very good.
For the mini pies I went with the fruit tart and a banana cream pie. It definitely wasn't the best fruit tart I've ever had. This is one of the select few desserts I actually love though so I'm a bit more critical of these. The banana cream pie was definitely as good as expected and a nice size. Sometimes you just don't want to commit to a whole pie!
So coming from someone who isn't big on sweets even I would say Oakmont bakery is amazing. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend you give it a try. Even if it's not for sweets just go for some bagels or donuts. I know I will be trying those next.
