  • I've been to this location a couple of times, and I have to say, its a nice location. Everything is clean, and well kept, from what I can see. A previous location I visited had several broken machines: this one doesn't appear to. The layout is a little wonky compared to other locations, but its a huge gym, and they have plenty of machines and weights. The bathrooms and changing rooms are clean, and it looks like the showers are pretty nice too. Here's the problem that I have with Planet Fitness: PF boasts that its a "No Judgment Zone." That's awesome, and totally appealing. We've all been to gyms that you can see people judging others, and it can be really intimidating. No one wants to be judged at the gym. We want to get in, we want to get our workout in, and feel better about ourselves for getting healthy. The problem is that PF isn't really a "No Judgment Zone" at all. For a "No Judgment Zone", y'all sound pretty judgmental with this description above the "No Lunk" alarm: "Lunk: One who grunts, drops weights, or judges. Ex: Ricky is slamming his weights, wearing a bodybuilding tank top, and drinking out of a gallon water jug. What a lunk." That doesn't sound like No judgment to me. "No grunt zone" signs next to the free weights? Guess what...lifting is hard. If you're going to get a good workout, you're going to push yourself, and sometimes...heaven forbid...you might just grunt a little bit. Hell, I did yesterday, and I was only curling 8 pounds...but after 193 arm movements (7 exercises, 12-15 reps each, 8 pounds)...ITS HARD. Sorry. I had to grunt a little to get that last rep. Also, While lifting weights the other day, someone ACTUALLY sounded the "Lunk Alarm", because someone else dropped their weights. Here's the issue I have with this: 1. I get that you don't want people slamming equipment around, but accidents happen. If you're sweaty, and a weight slips out of your hand, or maybe the weight was just a little too much for you...it might accidentally drop. 2. That alarm is LOUD. I was startled when it happened, and I had earbuds in. A noise like that could cause someone to drop weights, misstep on the treadmill...a whole ton of other potentially dangerous things. Oh and PS...people are still going to judge. I had more than a handful of guys giving me the eye when I was over in the free weight area, because I couldn't possibly know how to do curls, etc. So...I've experienced better gyms. 100%. Gyms that are safer, and don't have ridiculously loud alarms passing judgment on its members. But...PF right now fits the budget that I'm working with, and has a plethora of machines and weights that are available. So I deal with the Judgment, that tries to pass itself off as "non judgment."
