  • After years of having this as a bookmark, I was disappointed and broke afterwards. :( My hubs and I went to the Barrio Cafe on our date night and found that we should have stuck to Popo's on 67th Ave and Indian School. The place was packed which I thought was a good sign. And let me warn you now, there is limited parking and seating so expect a wait time. Our wait time was 45 min which I'll wait happily if the food is good. I ordered a drink from the small little bar inside. The drink selection was great! They had lots of weird concoctions with horchata and tequila creme which was exciting! I had a drink that mixed horchata with tequila creme and Chambord. It was DELICIOUS and highly recommended ($10.00). Once we were seated, we were not quickly greeted by our server. The bus boy brought us a bread basket with a tapenade salsa thing dip which I did not like. Our waitress finally came over and greeted us hurriedly as she seemed very busy. We ordered our drinks which we got at a decent time but our server did not come back for another long period. We finally got her attention and she seemed annoyed at us while she was taking our order. I ordered the famous Chiles en Nogadas but I asked to substitute the filling with cheese. The waitress told me that they cannot do substitutions on the dish because it is already premade. Ummmm, WHAT? I waited 45 minutes and traveled all the way from Goodyear, AZ to eat premade food!? I should have left then and there but I didn't because I really wanted to try the food. So I went with the cheese enchiladas and hubs went with the carne asada tacos. We received our food in a timely manner and the presentation was spot on! But the flavors were not there. My cheese enchiladas ($19.00) tasted like something I warmed up in the microwave. The red sauce tasted canned and the tortillas were hard. My husband said he liked his tacos but it was nothing spectacular or worth the $13.00 price tag (for 3 tacos btw). The only thing I enjoyed from the restaurant was the ambience, the spectacular hortchata, and the live music. Everything else was overpriced and mediocre. I would come back only for drinks next time. Can't go wrong with booze!
