We were just taken for a $$$$ ride. We paid $71.20 (not including gratuity) for a 70 minute taxi ride from the Village to the airport. When I pointed out that I had paid the the standard $41 taxi fare from the airport to the same apt where I was picked up, the driver snarled that the Village was not in the $41 "downtown" zone and that's why he turned on the meter. Since we were not familiar with the geography, we quietly paid the demanded amount. But I'm left wondering how our ride from the Village to the airport took 70 minutes while the meter was conveniently running.
