| - Its no secret that Phoenix/Scottsdale resorts offer some killer deals during the summer months. I finally took advantage of said "deals" on a recent work trip to Scottsdale. Two nights for work and it turned out that Omni was offering two nights, get the third night free deal. Plus, it happened to be my birthday weekend so booking was a no brainer! Additional perks were a $50 resort credit, no resort fees and some sweet deals at their award winning spa. Who wouldn't take advantage of this offer? We lucked out with the weather too. 100 degree high with a breeze made for perfect pool weather. The property is quite large but has a some what intimate feel. You'll find two pools, a spa, fitness center, a sports bar, poolside menu, fine dining and retail shops on the property too. The views to Camelback Mountain are second to none. The rooms are spacious and tidy. I requested a room upstairs in building 4, which is a little closer to the entrance of the hotel since critters (aka. Scorpions) can find their way into lower level rooms. Do come prepared with bottled water, as the hotel doesn't provide even a single complimentary bottle in the hotel rooms. Be careful with the mini bar/fridge- it's just like Vegas! If you remove an item from the dock, it's likely you'll pay for it.
Dining at the Monte Lucia- I ordered room service on night one. The kale salad with grilled salmon and green goddess dressing was 5 outta 5. The portion was super generous and the fresh. That was the highlight of the food here though. Poolside food was mediocre at best. The Mezze appetizer, a meager portion of runny hummus and babaganoush with carrots, celery and soggy pita was underwhelming, to say the least. It's meant for two people, but definitely not portioned accordingly. Also ordered was the Shrimp wrap with garlic aioli. Unfortunately, we sent that one back...which I rarely ever do, but it was no good. Watery cold shrimp and runny mayo make for a pretty unappetizing combo. The turkey burger was the safest bet. Nothing special, but it was edible. I wouldn't recommend the Monte Lucia as a dining destination, but maybe their main restaurant takes cooking a little more seriously.
The Spa on the other hand is fun! It's huge! From the locker rooms to the waiting area and resting rooms, the entire space is fabulous. I booked a facial and a manicure and really enjoyed both. Spa guests can enjoy a free sangria on the Spa terrace with views to Camelback mountain. Given the amount of space, this spa is ideal for large groups for sure.
Since I don't go to hotels to dine, this rating is largely based on the room and overall comfort of my stay. If I was rating the food, I'd probably give two stars. Overall, the Monte Lucia is a nice property in a beautiful location, so, four stars it is.
