  • The service department here is the worst. I bought a service contract for my van nine years ago, so I'm forced to use the dealer for anything other than maintenance. Until Larry Miller Surprise opened, this dealer was my only west valley option. Appointments mean nothing. Service consistently takes hours or days longer than they quote. The last time I went there I waited for fifty minutes just to check my van in. I kept coming back partially because Mike is a pretty nice guy to deal with, but I've come to the conclusion the whole service department is completely incompetent. About a year ago my van started randomly dying at stop signs, gas stations, lights etc only to start up after thirty minutes or an hour of waiting for a tow truck. Additionally, the check engine light was randomly cycling on and off at odd intervals. I also had a shudder and a mysterious clank coming from under the van at low speeds. These are all fairly worrisome symptoms. I drove or had my van towed THREE time to Larry Miller Avondale only to have Mike keep it for a week or ten days and tell me, "sorry, we can't figure out what's wrong with it." Hundreds of dollars in rental car fees and tow charges and I was no better off. I discovered Larry Miller had opened a location in Surprise, and not expecting much I gave them a shot at it. Here is what they found: Broken brake calipers (the clanking) causing inconsistent brake pad and rotor wear. Bad exhaust module (check engine light) and cracked gascap (gas cap error) Corroded wiring leading to the battery (intermittent dying) Cracked and leaking windshield wipe pump (a bonus) Bad shocks (another bonus) Broken visor (another service contract bonus-mike told me nothing physical on the car would be covered) Mickey and the guys over at the Surprise service center took the time to talk through the issues with me, ask good questions, ride with me in the van to be sure we were hearing the same things, and look things up on the computer while I was sitting there. It took three tries to get all of the issues taken care of, but they found and fixed issues each time I brought it in. Mickey told me the random shut off issue was the highest priority and he would figure it out before handing the van back. The other things we'd fix by trial and error. In contrast, Mike over in Avondale couldn't be bothered. "If we cant reproduce the issue, we can't fix it," he told me. He can't see the problem unless it grabs him by the lapels and slaps him in the face. Really, just avoid this place.
