| - I slap my hand for the fact that I live so close and yet have just now discovered this comedy stop. During the holidays, my husband and I decided to give the Speakeasy Comedy Lounge a try. We had no idea what we were walking into but what did we have to lose? Maybe a laugh or two, but that would be it. Luckily, no laughs were lost during our visit and in fact, we ended up laughing a lot!
The Speakeasy Comedy Lounge is located in an area connected to Papi Chulo's. It's divey comedy and I mean divey. Let me divulge. We showed up and realized that the show might be sold out, but instead of turning us away, the friendly staff member asked us to hold on for a minute while he set up another table...and he literally did just that! He pulled out a card table, plopped it in an open area (kind of) of the room and threw on a white tablecloth (who cares if all the other tablecloths on other tables were black!) He then seated us and just like that we were enjoyed a comedy show. I thought his actions really spoke highly of their customer service and I could tell that they really want to make their customers happy.
Throughout the show, guests were able to order food from Papi Chulos. We didn't order any food during our visit but it's nice to know it's an option. There is also a two drink minimum. The owner got up to welcome us to the show and was friendly, funny and fast. From there, we saw four comedians perform over the course of the two hour show. The majority of comics were really funny, minus one but we won't talk about him. I genuinely laughed throughout the performances and left in a happy mood and eager to return!
In summary, this is a fun option for a night out in Old Town and definitely off the beaten path. They also offer a deal for the connecting hotel for those who attended the comedy show. It was $49 a night when we attended the show and they also offered happy hour pricing for Papi Chulos after the show.
