  • A little shocked, and not in a good way. Quick Guide: Pro - offers lots of things Cons - didn't teach the basics, but taught a lot of tricks instead/which the dog didn't fully understand - many dogs there seemed untrained including ours after camp - behind the scenes didn't look so nice - a lot of money for flakey results - trainer seemed inexperienced I gave this 3/5 stars because I am giving it the benefit of the doubt. We may have just had an inexperienced trainer (i hope) or maybe he really needed to stay longer. Either way the behind the scenes look, the lack of teaching basics instead of tricks, and the feel they don't stand behind their training - worries me. My background: I may be a bit more judgmental than others because I work/volunteer with all types of dog. Also, my personal dogs have been through training at two different places with great outcomes so far. My boyfriend brought his puppy here for boarding/training. From what I knew I thought it was a decent place & was interested in learning more about snake training (so important for dogs in the desert). I was actually quite disappointed. My Initial thoughts: Walking in, I saw many people with their dogs going to obedience class, it was huge. I made the mistake by not asking how long their dog has been going to class for. The place looked nice from the outside (however, we accidentally started in the back - not so nice). Dogs were in chained runs barking and it looked very rundown/unorganized. Even my bf started to wonder if he made a mistake but, he already made a deposit. When we finally got inside, it felt like they were just herding dogs/people in and out. Yet, none seemed train. I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they were just starting training. One person, was bringing their dog back because he needed "more" training because he wasn't listening. I gave the benefit of the doubt that maybe she just didn't work with him after training there. Like any business they wanted to up sell, which I get but I haven't experienced this in the past with other training. My Final Thoughts: They wanted to keep his puppy for a couple weeks (we did a little over a week which may have had an impact on part of this review). However, he came out with a tattered E-cone which looked brand new when we brought him in (he had stitches a week previous to his training). This worried both my bf and I. The trainer came out to show us what he "learned". Yet, he wasn't really listening to her that well. He learned a few things crawl, sit (he already knew), down (but you have to lean over and bring the treat to the floor for him to down - so not actually learned), roll over and paw. So we saw that he somewhat learned these but what surprised me is that you are working on training "tricks". My bf spent almost $700 on tricks???? Why wouldn't they concentrate on the basics - sit, stay, come, heel, down, off? If you have a dog for a limited amount of time and you teach it many things of no importance? If this was me I would teach it a couple things and make sure that pup had it down so they come back to learn the rest. I am comparing this to my pup who is going to be on her third session of training tomorrow (with my trainer) and she is completely a changed dog from how she once was. She was no easy task! She was a little wild one, my parents called her Eris (goddess of chaos). Her training cost me $900 with 2 more sessions left and free follow up group classes. To me Partners doesn't even compare to the quality I have experienced elsewhere.
