Right when you walk in, you're hit with how elegant (modern elegant, not the stuffy white table cloth kind) the place is and then there's the wonderful smell of smoke from the wood fire grill. While it's beautifully decorated, I think the length of the table my boyfriend and me were given made it a little awkward and uncomfortable. He was more interested in the taco and burger place down the street but it was my birthday so he was obliged to follow.
The service was a little bit on the slower side but it was a Thursday night so I'm sure they were not running at full speed. I'm fairly well-versed when it comes to food but the menu is a bit intimidating...lots of stuff I haven't heard of. We did the 3 courses option.
Octopus crudo-3.75 stars. It was fairly tender but not the best I've ever had. The flavors developed more as I finished the dish.
Yellowtail crudo-3.75
Ricotta with walnuts and honey-4 stars. I love these flavors, it could've used a little less olive oil and more honey.
Mozzarella with the caramelized onions/bacon/reduced balsamic-4.75 stars. Delicious!
Brisket-4 stars. Except the portion is way too small. One tiny slice of brisket and I'm all for nice marbling but half of it was pure fat and inedible. They should switch out the radicchio with Brussel sprouts. Flavoring and tenderness were on point for the brisket.
Lamb belly with mash potatoes and broccolini-1.5 stars. The broccolini had a delicious smoky charred flavor. The the lamb however was gross. It was so gamey. I know that if you cook it right, or soak it in buttermilk before cooking, you should have an ever so slight gamey flavor. Or maybe it's just what my taste buds prefer. I had to spit it out in my napkin it was that bad.
The place was kind of expensive ($160 with drinks and tip for 2 people) and I left a little hungry. I do think the restaurant is unique and it left me wanting to try more. That's the reason for the 4 stars.
I hope to return
