| - It's been a long time since I've eaten tapas, because I generally like big portions, but I was a guest so I figured, "what the heck."
The atmosphere was buzzing.
It was crowded but my cousin had the forethought to make reservations, so they sat our party right away.
This was the most interesting place I have been to in a long time.
They had a menu with tapas and meals. Tapas are like tasting-size portions.
Now, they also had a chef's special menu.
The special was 5 or 6 different tapas, then a meal, and a digestive (I haven't drank alcohol in 10 years, but it smelled like port..
Of course I looked at the price for the special and it was $45 per person.
I thought. "Is it New Year's Eve and I've become senile?"
But every special was enough for two people, so it wasn't New Year's Eve.
My cousins had shared vegetarian tapas, and I split a regular one with the only other non-kosher family member.
My tapas were a small lamb chop, shrimp scampi, a fig wrapped in bacon, a skewer of beef, some cherry tomatoes, and a pepper stuffed with goat cheese.
Everything was good.
The meal was paella served on a skillet. The portion was larger than I expected, and the authenticity was there.
But the thing that really stood out, was the service.
Our waiter was in the top five waiters that I've had in my life.
He could teach a class on how to be a waiter.
Helpful without being obtrusive, smiling, good energy level, happy to explain everything, the works.
He also gave us six free ports, which was very generous.
I can honestly say that it was worth the price, and I don't say that too often when it's more that $30 per person.
When I visit Scottsdale again, I'm sure that we'll go there.
