i had the pleasure of volunteering at the country animal haven for a few weeks while being bored and unemployed in madison this winter.
this place is an amazing no-kill, non-profit animal shelter. they provide a safe place for cats that are still waiting to find the perfect home.
run completely by volunteers, this place is very well-kept, clean and organized. the cats have pretty much free run of the house and barn -- and only a few are kept in cages (the young kittens and the sick/ill-tempered). it is nice to see so many cats in one place with the freedom to roam as they please. also, i was amazed to see cats that got along so well with each other.
the location is a bit off the beaten path, but it's well worth the visit. there are plenty of cats waiting to be adopted. also, i believe some of them are brought to petsmart and mounds to be showcased for adoption.
in addition, if you have free time, lend a hand.
volunteers are always appreciated! :)
