| - I heard they were under new management, so I was curious to see what has changed because this gym is the closest one to my house. Unfortunately, it has not changed for the better.
-It took a while for the employee to notice us, and when he did he wasn't super friendly. He checked my partner in and charged for both of us but never checked to see if I had a signed waiver or been there before. When we told him we didn't need equipment, he didn't ask any further questions of us.
-The climbers are not being trained to belay properly. The three other pairs climbing were not even close to proper belaying technique. One climber was taking picture with her phone in one hand while her other hand was on the rope ABOVE the Gri Gri.
-The two old dogs who lived behind the counter have been replaced by one new dog who lives in the main part of the gym. The employee and his friends were playing fetch with the dog. One threw a ball towards a pair of new climbers causing the belayer to scream and duck as the dog ran at her at full speed. There was a climber on the other end of the rope which was scary to see.
-The routes are poorly set and purpose-less, the almost non-existent padding on the floor is even thinner and dirtier than it used to be and completely torn up in some places
-Music is hardcore and loud. A/C isn't sufficient for the gym and the extra fans don't help
-Ropes and Gri Gris are new and in good condition, hopefully that means they're doing their regular required maintenance on their autobelays as well? The holds and tape are not in good condition (a lot of routes are just labeled 5 and one route was labeled 5.8.10?) Everything needs to be washed, and there are small safety issues (one route says the arete is on, but there's a large bolt sticking out around the corner which you can't see when you're climbing and blindly grabbing the arete).
So it's a cheap, old, dirty gym with boring routes. It's fine for the Groupon crowd (assuming they don't hurt themselves), but I can't imagine any actual climbers wanting to climb here. The first time I came to this gym was back in 2007, and I have seen it go through many owners, and unfortunately it seems like each one is worse than the last.
