  • I have to admit I do not know much about the Wisconsin State Capitol but my sis-n-law brought Bunny and I here as she was showing us around the town of Madison. It was late and it was FREEZING and my SoCal bones had not yet adjusted to the weather. Luckily there was no snow YET and I stress YET so it made walking around super easy because we weren't slushing around in the snow. Being that it was the Friday before Christmas things were pretty quit in the city. This made it easy to find parking. We parked across the street at the meters then walked over. The capitol is lit up at might which is very beautiful. The building I believe is quite old and immaculately preserved especially when you think about all the snow and ice they see every year. I learned one very interesting thing about that capitol, which is no one is allowed to build any building taller then the capitol to insure you can see it all the time when in the city. Inside at Christmas time there is an enormous Christmas tree adorned with ornament made by the local school children instead of buying expensive ornaments. I thought was pretty cool. Some of those kids are pretty talented when they made their ornaments. Underneath the tree there was a train going around and around. Very nice. Simple and elegant. Your allowed you take pics after getting married. Not sure if you can also get married at the capitol. I know because we happened upon a winter wedding picture taking in place. Very lovely. There are several rooms, offices, or meeting rooms inside that go out from the middle. You can get lost pretty easy so they have cool markers located in each corridor at the beginning by the center to let you know where you are. Beautiful statues, woodwork, marble from all over the world I was told lies on the floor. So beautiful. The center city square surrounds the capital and there is a college near by but I can't remember which one. I think the Badger mascot college. We didn't do a tour but I think I'd like to, to find out more history about the capitol. Over all it is something nice to do. Several restaurants and shops are all around it as well as a beautiful church my sis-n-law going to.
