  • I contacted MomDoc Women for Women to get an IUD. This was one of the providers that took my insurance so I called to schedule an appointment. I was told over the phone that I needed to be seen in the office before they would do the actual IUD insertion. I thought this was understandable, so I scheduled a visit with them. At the visit, I saw Dr. Harris, who proceeded to talk with me for a long time about all of my contraceptive options. I wasn't really looking for that since I had already decided which one I wanted, but he was talking to me about it anyway so I let him. He also performed a breast and pelvic exam, and also did some STD testing, for the IUD insertion. I was able to get my IUD inserted about a month after that visit. This was done by an NP who was rude and didn't introduce herself. She didn't do a pelvic exam, which I thought was very strange. Being a medical professional and having some experience in gynecology, pelvic exams are 100% ALWAYS supposed to be done prior to an IUD insertion so that the person inserting the IUD knows the anatomy and knows what to expect. I would understand skipping it (maybe) if she had seen me before, but she hadn't and proceeded to the insertion without even examining me. Thank goodness my uterus wasn't in a different position, otherwise a perforation may have happened! Either way, IUD in, whatever. All good, right? Not so fast. I got a bill in the mail for a 45+ minute doctors visit. When I called to dispute this charge (because I figured it was preventive care and should be covered), they informed me that discussing contraceptives wasn't part of a "wellness visit" and that MomDoc always bills separately if you discuss contraceptives at all. What a racket. I also got a $200 bill in the mail for the lab testing. This may seem fine but according to ACOG (american college of obstetricians and gynecologists) guidelines, pre-IUD insertion lab testing only needs to be done according to the regular STD screening guidelines. For me, a sexually active woman under the age of 25, that would include gonorrhea and chlamydia. I was tested and billed for additional testing that wasn't indicated--BV, candida, and a couple others. Understandably, if I were having symptoms, this would indicate further testing but I was not. I appealed to my insurance and I called MomDoc's billing department. No dice. They said 7-8 tests were in one packet and that is how they do it there. I am on the line for $400 (almost $200 for the 45+minute visit, and $200 for the labs). I would never come here again. They up-charge and bill you for the most that they can get away with. Insurance won't touch it because insurance companies are just concerned about whether services billed were actually provided. MomDoc will bill you for services that you don't need and then charge you for them!! DO NOT COME HERE. p.s. the ladies that work in the lobby are super rude and act like they don't want to be there. I'd say that they need to re-structure and have a real lobby with a check-in desk so you can't see them playing on their phones during work, but in hindsight, whatever, just don't come here for your healthcare.
