Okay so I actually really loved this exhibit and had a really nice time. Now I know you're wondering why 4 stars and not 5 well i'll get to that I promise just hold out a little longer and trust me i'll get to it. So I am a huge Marvel nerd and my first ever superhero was Spiderman when I was a kid, I grew up with the Avengers and when I found out about this I had to go. Well today was a great day because they were having a special deal that if you brought a comic book you got 10 bucks off admission. Sadly you couldn't combine deals so it was either the comic book deal or the local deal. I settled on the comic book deal since it goes to a great cause.
The tour is self guided so I don't really understand what another reviewer is talking about and it's a surprisingly well made tour. The tour starts off with a story of you being a new recruited Shield agent for their S.T.A.T.I.O.N program which was created after the Ultron incident. The story starts off with you being briefed by Agent Hill in a "secure" room before the doors open (in a really super cool way I might add) and you're ushered into the confidential world of S.H.I.E.L.D. So before you enter or even buy tickets you must download the Avengers Station app which is free for IOS and Android because this is a major part and I mean essential major part of the exhibit. If you don't download it or you have a Windows Phone that doesn't support it you can rent one for 5 bucks. The museum is very well made and I mean super well done to the point where I actually literally thought I was on the set of an Avengers film. The effects were super cool (Ant-Man has a really cool effect just look down when you get to him) like walking through a room and having air blown on you for decontainment. Most of the props were real and screen used though there were some that are just props but since the tour for me was self guided I wasn't really told which ones. The ones that I do know are real are Cap's shield and his costume from Captain America The First Avenger. The app that you downloaded allows you to play sort of a mini game in which you answer questions and gain as much information you can on the Avengers.
Once you gain all the info you can you take a "test" to determine your score and if you rank up within S.H.I.E.L.D. or not. There are very fun games in the exhibit like a coordination test which was fun because of the competition. According to staff the highest they've seen is a 0.4 and 0.2 is Captain America's score. The app also has some cool surprises in it while you're walking around.
Now onto the cons so the first con is not what made me deduct any stars it's just a slight annoyance. So with the app you connect to their wifi and bluetooth but since their rentals are coordinated specifically with their network and your phone isn't sometimes you lose the connection or it lags. For instance once you reach a room you're supposed to get a briefing from Agent Hill but occasionally you'll have to wait a couple seconds for the briefing to come in since it hasn't registered your phone on the hotspot yet. Not a huge deal but it happens so be warned. My phone gonked at the end for the final battle but I was given a free rental to complete the tour so no biggie at all.
Now here is what you've all been waiting for, the con that was so bad it required a deduction of not one but two whole stars. That con is the PRICE!!!!!! This exhibit is immensely expensive and I mean super expensive. With the deal today I paid 29 bucks but without the deal the price comes to about 40 not to mention the extra 5 bucks if you can't download the app. Today when I went there were no crowds it was literally just me in the entire exhibit and 1 guy and his daughter at the very end, so in total the exhibit with no crowds took about an hour and a half. With crowds and if you read everything on every sign and play every game this exhibit will take you around 2 hours to complete. That' s a decent time but not for the price. This is a very expensive event and as a local I will probably not go again unless I bring a date or I get a free ticket. It's very very expensive but still pretty fun. Don't skip it if you're a Marvel fan just be warned it's a one and done kind of deal.
