| - A fun way to spend an evening with friends while making some fun, creative art was the goal. I have been wanting to go to one of these places for a while so I was excited when I found one in North Olmsted. We've been here twice now. The prices are comparable (I assume) - a mug is around $16, a plate/small figurine is under $20. A small canvas (ceramic canvas) is around $30. The studio fee is $6 before 6 pm and $8 if you arrive after 6 pm. We used a "buy one get one item free" coupon - check your mailers before heading here!!
How it works: You pay the studio fee, go around the store looking for ready-to-paint unglazed ceramic objects and choose what you want to paint (they have figurines, plates, mugs, ornaments, cookie jars, random stuff). Don't forget to look at the price tag at the bottom of the item prior to choosing because some prices are steep! Go to paint bar, select your paint colors/brushes and let your creativity flow. In the end, you give them your finished product and they glaze it in the kiln and it is ready for pick up in a week.
Pros:
- Open till 8 pm on Saturdays
- They provide all the paints/brushes/etc covered under studio fee
- In North Olmsted yay (that might just be a pro for me)
- You can bring your own wine/beer and food (snacks?) to munch on while working!!!
- Good activity for both adults and kids
Cons:
- 1 week wait before you can collect your finished product (that's how long they take for glazing it)....this might be the same elsewhere...I wouldn't know.
- The staff is god awful...and this is the major reason for the 3 stars.
Allow me to explain. We've now been to this location twice. Both times, we found the staff cold, unfriendly and with a constant look of disdain and a general sense of "I hate my life." In this economy, how is a business getting by with such terrible customer service? It is not like we were being rude or annoying, it was our first visit and we just asked the typical newbie Qs. I would LOVE to spend several evenings here with my friends during reunions but I feel a little ridiculous paying $$ to a place where the workers seem to feel that they are doing us a favor by letting us exist. They seem to be fairly nice to the kids, just not adults.
Go here IF: 1) you are a parent taking your child for a fun day - you both will have a good time!! or 2) You don't care that the workers are miserable and can manage to tune them out and enjoy your night.
I haven't decided if I will return, but if I do, I'll be sure to post back. We might go back just because of proximity and the fact that we did have a good time despite the atmosphere.
