| - It's a Westin, you pretty much know the deal if you stay at them often- but they do vary a bit in terms of overall quality, though Charlotte leans a bit toward the low end for a Westin, I'm afraid. It is a sleek, newish building with the cool, polished feel that most Westin's throw down. The Ember Grille was nearly empty at dinnertime, and the environment was cold and stark. You would think something with "ember" in its name would emit a bit of warmth in its ambiance. The menu seemed a little limited, and we were starving and I was getting cranky so we actually opted for the bar for appetizers while we decided what to do. I highly recommend the "10" sampler, which included small bites of rare ahi, goat cheese quesadilla, buffalo wings, hummus and smoked salmon. Great deal for $14. J got a delicious Kobe burger and we relaxed in the spacious bar, and soaked in the cocktail hour jazz piano. Room service was just okay. The staff was all very pleasant with the exception of the disinterested waiter in the bar; strangest service I may have ever encountered. I think maybe he was trying to pull off some sort of NYC attitude schtick in Charlotte. It was amusing at least. Nice stay, nice location. No MSNBC, this and the waiter cost them a star.
