  • It's hard to review any McDonald's "restaurant" because even if it was the most immaculate place with flowers and a live jazz band, it's still going to be some of the worst food you can ever put in your mouth. I should know better. I am not a teenager anymore so buying something like a Double Quarter Pounder at my age is unforgivable in my mind. In fact the last time I was there and ordered the aforementioned item the girl at the counter responded as if to say "Are you sure you want that?" Alright. So we know how terribly unhealthy the food is, but at least the price is cheap, right? I could not believe how expensive McDonald's food has become! A regular Quarter Pounder is now over 4 dollars. And not only is the food way more expensive, but it's actually dropped in size and quality -- if that's even possible. Continuing with my "old man rant," the menus are completely different than I remember. Instead of having a uniformed list with burgers, drinks and fries they now have some sort of nonsensical pictograms pushing their specials and combos. Granted I am usually a little drunk and/or stoned when actually craving McDonald's, but I couldn't really make heads or tails of it all. The service is what you would expect at a 24-hour McDonald's at Dufferin and Dupont. The employees seem very disgruntled and range from teens with attitude to quiet old men mopping the floors. They just sort of toss your food on the counter without looking you in the eye -- a far cry from what they portray in commercials, or even the standards this place had 20 years ago. Like any kid I used to love McDonald's back in the day. But I think whatever "magic" this company used to have disappeared back in 1993. The food still tastes the same, but to me I almost compare late-night cravings for this junk to be similar to a drug addiction: you know it's terrible for you but you somehow can't resist it. Even when I finally ate my burger it felt like a quick fix and I was ashamed of myself. I have been to this place twice in the past two weeks after avoiding McDonald's pretty much my entire adult life. The fact that I am actually going to try and resist eating here again is not a good look. It's a habit I must break immediately.
