  • Sky Harbor - as an Arizona native I have watched Sky Harbor become what is today. I can remember only having Terminal 1, the passengers walking across the tarmac to the terminal as we stood on the roof watching; waving. "Here comes Aunt Mamie!" we'd squeal as they rolled out the red carpet and she'd walk down the stairs wearing her fox stole; in for the winter from New Hampshire. Always exciting. In high school that was a good cheap date too - go watch the planes at the airport and steal some kisses under the stars in the dark, thick night. Then the sprawl and growth of the 70's required a bigger airport and it grew and with each new phase we would be in awe and remember the old times. It grew and grew and became the rather hodgepodge of an airport. I love the new train to the terminal and hope to utilize that someday soon but otherwise the airport lacks some character, local flavor and charm and is not the most organized of airports. I will say the Sky Harbor employees were some of the most courteous that I encountered on our trip. Despite having to work in the blistering heat they were very kind and helpful to us. We had a very pleasant wait at the gate and the boarding was civilized and easy thanks to the ticket agents. The moving sidewalks are a blessing for having to get to the gates quickly and is highly appreciated. It does same time and prevents you having to RUN from one end to the other. As always, the a/c is too cold for comfort. You are wearing clothes for 100+ degrees outside and they have it chilled down to the high 70's? Please. Take a sweater and wear long pants. The ride to the airport is miserable in long pants but once inside you will be glad you did. Also take a sweater and thank me next time. Otherwise the airport is fine. The cell phone parking used to be really convenient and easy but they have moved it and the signs disappear so it's a bear to find. Keep that in mind too.
