| - Conch fritters. That's really all I have to say. At Kaya, they're the best I've ever had. Kaya is a member of the Big Burrito group who also owns Mad Mex, Eleven, and several other places around the 'Burgh. Kaya has Mad Mex Prices with Eleven-level food. It's really fantastic.
The place is cozy and full of Island flavor from the tiki-looking statues in the corners to the tile decor. Surprisingly, given the amount of area covered in tile, it's not cold or uninviting in the winter. You can also choose to eat outside during good weather, but something caused their outdoor tabletops to warp slightly so keeping a drink upright is sometimes challenging.
Their menu is fantastic. Among the winners are the Kaya Burger, the Crispy Fish Tacos and the Conch Fritters. The salad that comes with is also amazingly good. Something about the lemony garlic dressing... I would eat the side salad alone as a meal given the chance, it's just that good.
When they serve chips, they're taro chips that feel (and probably are) home made.
The service is always great, and their bartenders really know how to mix their drinks. Though the place is somewhat small - maybe 30 tables or so - I have never had a problem getting seated except when we went there for dinner on a fried chicken Thursday. I didn't know it was a "thing" and the wait would have been so long that we decided to find other food.
Overall, Kaya remains one of my favorite places to eat in Pittsburgh.
