| - Allow me to relate my recent experience at Movie Art Decor..
I rented 2 documentaries. 5 bucks each plus tax. Clerk was in a bit of a rush (it was nearing closing time) but seemed like a nice guy.
Took them home, one disc won't play. I spent a good 30 minutes troubleshooting - cleaning the disc a few times, trying different media players on my laptop, changing settings and whatnot - the disc would not play. No problems with the other disc.
5 days later, I have time to go back, so I take them in and explained the situation. Different clerk this time, an older woman. I was expecting to be met with an "I'm sorry that happened, here, try an other copy!"
Instead, the clerk speaks to me in a rude and condescending way, as though I'm trying to scam her. It was really insulting. Then she tells me that there must be a problem with my laptop, that my laptop must be really old. When I told her that my laptop was only 2.5 years old, she suggested that someone may have owned the laptop before me (?!)
As an extra surprise, I then learned that the rental period was only 1 day. No one informed me of this fact when I rented the discs. I was not given a receipt, either. So now it turns out that both the discs are overdue, And the woman refused to give me a refund on the disc that did not work. In the end I paid a total of $23 to watch 1 DVD at home.
And this is the reason why video stores are biting the dust. Ridiculous charges and rude clerks have pushed me firmly into the streaming/downloading camp. Thanks, Movie Art Decor!
