| - When picking a daycare, it's the little things that will make you not want to return. Here are my little things:
1. I go to pick up my 11-month-old from the baby room and as soon as I open the door, I see this raised big cut/scrape on the side of face near her eye. When I asked what happened, she tells me that my baby was pulling on a phone cord during snack time and the phone fell off the counter and part of it hit her in the face. Err what is a large office phone with a long 1980s spiral phone cord doing in an infant room? Secondly, why is this phone sitting on a counter and not anchored to a wall? This big, hard phone missed my baby's eye by a millimetre. I understand accidents happen, but a long phone cord in an Infant 1/2 room? They're just learning to walk and grab everything. Let's do better for the future babies that may end up in that room.
2. I go to another room to pick up my 5 yr old daughter and the teacher screams "She's here! Boys, here she is!" I'm confused because I can't see my daughter at that moment, I'm the only parent there, and two little black boys are screaming, "Yaaay!!" The little boys look at me and say, "Umm...That's not our mom." The teacher says, "Oh, it's not? I guess I was wrong again!" The little boys' smiles disappear as their mood deflates. She looks at me and laughingly says, "This is the 2nd time I've gotten it wrong today!" I wanted to ask her, so this is the second time this afternoon that you have mistakenly assumed that a random black person coming through the door was their parent? You actually made this mistake earlier, didn't see the error of your judgement, and then repeated it? All right, but then, on top of that, you somehow see the humour in this? I'm not sure I understand and it really made me sad for those boys.
I REALLY wanted to like this place. The facility was neat and clean and the sign in process was all digital, and they also send daily status updates through an app, which is super helpful for a working parent. In addition the manager who works in the front, with the beautiful flowers in her hair is super sweet, helpful, and kind. We were considering them for our full-time daycare, but we've decided to go elsewhere.
I wish this business nothing but good things as they move forward.
