| - Grand re-opening special, $20 shellac mani was the sign at the front door, along with a table of cookies and treats. They got me in right away so I was pleasantly surprised. So far so good.
The manicurist had trouble removing my existing polish (sally hansen nail strips). Kept asking me what the stuff was, and actually left black specks on each of my fingernails even after she was supposedly done removing the old polish. She couldn't find the CND Shellac base and top coats, so she used OPI basd and top while the colour was from the CND collection. I'm not a technician so I assumed that was fine.
Manicurist did a sloppy job with the filing, she also cut my thumb nails way too short so they look stubby relative to the other nails. She asked me round or square, and reminded me that most of my nails looked round but a few looked square. Well, that's why I'm here, right... There was polish pooling in several of my nails. Some polish accidentally got on the side of my finger, she blamed me for touching it. I mean, given where it was, it would have been very difficult for me to get polish on that part of my finger, I think it was her. But really? Regardless of whose fault it was, was it necessary to 'point fingers'? She didn't remove it and I ended up walking out with gel polish on my skin.
She kept commenting on how dry my cuticles were, to the point I was ready to snap and tell her "that's why I'm here!" but of course, I just nodded and stayed silent. There was only ONE UV lamp under the table, and I had to perform arm gymnastics just to get my left hand under the lamp which was on the right side. I asked for another lamp, they said there is only one, and I asked them to move it to the middle which they did, but the cord must not have been long enough coz soon after, the lamp shut off on its own. (P.S. I was a gymnast as a child, AND I practice yoga regularly. I had a lot of trouble getting my left hand to loop to the lamp on the right. I don't know how other people can do it.)
Because the gel polish was applied over nails that still had specks of prior polish on them, there are bumps in many places and I can see black specks underneath the pink polish.
When it came time to pay, she wrote $30 on a piece of paper and I was almost charged that plus tax when I cashed out. I then reminded her of the $20 sign at the front door and also what the girls told me when I walked in. The manicurist seemed extremely apologetic and I was only charged $20 plus tax, I believe I gave a $2.50 tip but I really felt like paying no tip at all.
I won't be back.
