I was in the store today with my mom and 3 year old. I picked out a new cup with a straw for my kid and verbalized to him that we were going to buy him a new cup. He took the cup and started putting the straw in his mouth. The lady who was working there immediately came up to me and said "You plan on buying that, right?" I just looked at her for a second because the tone and in which she said it was so rude. I then stated that yes, I was buying the cup. She then walked away.
My mom then went to the check out to pay for my kid's cup and something she bought. I pushed my stroller towards the front of the store to get out of the way of some other shoppers. The women I encountered earlier came over to the cash register and asked the girl checking my mom out multiple times if I had paid for the cup. The girl at the register was trying to talk quietly because my mom was still finishing the transaction, but this lady kept asking her.
I get it - my kid put the straw in his mouth and you wanted to make sUre we didn't just put it back. But there is a tactful and polite way to approach the situation.
