| - After reading some reviews I was a bit worried about trying this place, since some were saying waiting times were too long, the meat was too salty, they had trouble redeeming coupons, etc. After having eaten there, it was for the most part a positive experience, but with a few issues.
I'll start with the positives. The hostess was pleasant and sat us right away (although it was a Wednesday, so that probably helped). Our waitress was attentive and friendly and provided good service. The salad bar had a pretty decent selection; I particularly enjoyed the au gratin potatoes and I thought they were rich and cheesy. I also liked the pan de queijo served with the meal, a nice bread with a cheesy center. That's all unlimited, which is another plus. To cleanse your palate in between they offered us plantains fried with cinnamon and sugar, along with garlic mashed potatoes. I thought the plantain was decent, and would recommend trying it if you have a sweet tooth. After our meal, when it came time to pay, we forgot to tell our waitress we had a coupon for $25 off, and she politely got us a new, discounted total, which I thought was nice, because we really should have told her earlier.
Although there were some definite positives, there were also a few things I didn't like. The soup of the day was lobster bisque, and although it tasted okay, there were no pieces of lobster at all; it was all liquid. I also thought that the overall quality of the meat was just average. It really all just tasted like meat I could have cooked on my grill at home; the Brazilian sausage, to me, tasted like Eckrich kielbasa. I also did not like how undercooked some of the meat was. I like pink in my steaks, but some of it was too red for my liking. I know this is to be expected at a steakhouse, but I think they should have some cuts cooked more to appeal to customers who maybe want to try certain meats but don't like rare steaks (I thought the rare meat was just okay, but it's not what I personally like). I also have to agree to an extent with the people saying the meat was a bit salty. Not all of it was, but some definitely had a bit too much. Also, while the meat carvers were very attentive, sometimes they were a bit too attentive. They continued to offer us meat even after having turned our card over to the red half indicating we did not want any at that time. The manager was nice, but he came over to our table several times to ask if everything was okay; it's good that he wanted to ask that, but I think he overdid it.
Overall, I think this was an okay experience. I would return, but only at someone else's request for a special event; I won't be making the choice myself. I feel that the quality of the meat wasn't as good for the price you pay. I'd want to try Green Forest in Penn Hills before coming back here. It may be worth it for you, the reader of this review, to try it once though, just for the experience. It is unlimited steak after all, and you'll likely find something you enjoy between all the choices of meat and items at the salad bar. The other person I went with really enjoyed it, so there's that too; you may love it, you may not. Try it and see for yourself.
