  • A modern take on a British staple, Cornish Pasty Company has about 50 different pasties to choose from including at least 10 vegetarian pasties and even some dessert pasties too! The restaurant has a Brit pub feel to it, with a bar bar on one side and a dining area and counter seating on the other. Cornish Pasties were a working class food for miners. They were crimped at one end so that the miners with the soiled hands could eat them and just throw out the end they were holding. Here the pasties range from $9-$11 each and the pictures on Yelp can be deceiving. You may think they look like a empanada but in real life they are the size of calzone, they are large. Mushroom, Walnut, Spinach Soup - I'm a big cream of mushroom fan so I had to try this out. I ordered a full bowl but they only brought me out a cup of it. I asked if it was a mistake and they said they were out of the soup for the night so they gave me the smaller cup for free! After one sip I was wishing there was a bowl of it, because it was that good. Creamy mushroom without overdoing it on the cream, pureed spinach and walnuts with a walnut chunk in almost every bite. Served with warm sourdough bread. One of the best versions of mushroom soup that I have ever had. Lamb & Mint Pasty (Lamb, Potatoes, Rutabaga, Onion, Fresh Mint) - My friends got this and I tried a bite. It was good, not gamey at all and paired well with the red wine gravy. Recommended. Peppered Steak Pasty (Sirloin Steak, Sautéed Portabella Mushrooms, Leeks, Roasted Zucchini, Stilton Cheese) - My server recommended this and it was all good until I forgot that it had Stilton in it. Stilton is a strong bleu cheese. Don't get me wrong, this pasty was done very well... I would have liked it better if it didn't have Stilton in it but that was my bad for missing that on the description. If you enjoy steak and blue cheese, you will love this! Personal preference aside, this is a 5 star pasty. It comes with a side of peppercorn brandy cream sauce which is delicious. This sauce is lightly sweet and creamy with pepper flavor but no heat and would be great with most of their pasties. If you can, ask for a side of this even if your pasty doesn't come with it. If I make it back to Phoenix I'm going to have to try the Pilgrim (turkey, sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce), the Oogie (steak, potatoes, rutabaga), Shepard's Pie and Chicken Tikka Masala. The veggie offerings also look stupendous. The only thing a Brit would find lacking is in their beer offerings. They do not carry too many brews from the UK. You can't get a Black and Tan or a Smithwicks here. Not a biggie, but just thought I'd mention it. Unexpected was the staff giving me the soup for free when I would have gladly paid for the smaller portion offering since I did order it. It was only a $4.50 difference, but Cornish Pasty Company went above and beyond to get it right, even when they didn't have to. Now if only they could figure out how to open other Cornish Pasty Companies across the nation (California please?)...
