| - First shopped at Sportsman's Warehouse in 2007 when planning a trip to Africa. Since I needed to be prepared for some camping and a variety of weather, it was important to pack wisely. Received excellent customer service over the weeks prior to the trip; the staff helped me find just the right gear.
Fast forward to 2011, when preparing for a trip to Alaska. I had zero winter gear, and had to start from scratch. Again, I found most of what I needed at Sportsman's and received excellent customer service from several employees, including one who was off work but took the time to assist me with my selections.
So often you hear that places have gone downhill, but I found Sportsman's Warehouse to have the same excellent customer service in 2011 as they had in 2007. Their inventory was great, too.
I called or visited the store after each trip and provided feedback; the employees who had helped were genuinely happy to hear how well things went while traveling. At the time I put in a good word for each person with the store manager, but I forgot to post a review online. Better late than never. Definitely recommend.
Update 1/2012: Returning to Alaska this February, and needed to find a couple of additional items since the weather will be much colder this time around. With the assistance of three of the same friendly employees who helped last year, I found just the right items. Once again, Sportsman's Warehouse delivered on excellent products, great prices and outstanding customer service.
Update 2/2013: Stopped in at Sportsman's later last year to check out another item for a third trip to Alaska this January. They were helpful and friendly as always, though I didn't buy anything that day. As it turned out I never made it back to the Mesa store but DID get to the Sportsman's Warehouse in Fairbanks, where I experienced the same friendly service and found a great item on sale. I will post this info on Yelp for that specific location, but also wanted to add it here.
