Before going to Toronto we did serious research and decided upon visiting The Distillery District, we'd go to Soma. Why? I am a chocolate fiend. A maniac. Good chocolate is always worth the trip.
And Soma more than delivered on great chocolate, lots of samples, amazing service and the BEST gelato I have had in a long time.
When you walk into Soma, you're greeted by people who know what they're talking about. Whether you stick to classics or are looking for something more exciting than a bar of milk chocolate, Soma is the place to be. It's a great place to sample different chocolates, sip on reach and creamy (and slightly spicy and bitter) Mexican Hot Chocolate, and buy gifts for people that you say you'll give but will secretly eat on your way out of the door.
We had a few scoops of gelato after 15 minutes of indecisive choosing and trying sample after generous sample. The ladies were more than happy to oblige and I was happy that they were in a good mood because I was going to get as much of Soma as I possibly could. We swore we'd come back to Soma before returning home but we couldn't make it back. Needless to say, I loved it beyond words and wish there was a location in Michigan. Even my lactose intolerant and non-chocolate obsessed BF enjoyed his creamy scoop of gelato and samples of chocolate. He said it was worth any tummy ache he may get later and we fought over the melted remains of the gelato like crazy fiends before throwing out the paper cup. We left with a bag full of truffles and no plans to eat anything else for a while...unless we could go to Soma one more time before heading back to our hotel!
