I rented a car to take a quick trip down to San Diego. I booked the car through Southwest in order to get some reward points out of the deal, which came back to nip me in the ass.
Booking and picking up were a breeze! The only negative thing in my experience was dealing with the additional driver fee. I knew there would be one ($10/day!) and found out that one of the perks of their rewards program (free!) is that you can add your additional driver for free. Upon arrival, I was informed that the only way that is valid is if you book directly through Alamo.
Something that Alamo seems to do differently than most other companies: instead of placing a hold on my credit card for double the rental amount until I dropped off the car, they charged the amount while I was still at the counter. It was great not having a hold placed, in my case. However, if you'd rather not be charged until you drop off or you need a payment to go through before your card is charged, this is not for you!
The car I got was great and gave me no problems. Dropping off is one of my favorite parts of renting. Every single employee at the drop-off is the epitome of excellent customer service. Friendly, helpful and efficient.
Assuming their prices stay competitive, I'll probably rent from Alamo again (only through their website next time!).
