  • Joke of an Accountant firm. If you have $25,000 or so to pay them, they will work for you. If your problem is in the $2,000 - $4,000 range, forget it. They look at that like it's a tip. Astrid Lucas, is a liar. And a horrible employee. We needed to do the taxes for my deceased mother. We visited a few other firms, but they couldn't guarantee calls back within 24 hours (very important to us) or even a time frame for the taxes. We were dealing with a time sensitive matter and we let Astrid know this straight off. She obviously didn't care as she accepted full payment, but failed to file my mothers taxes. We waited the 12-16 weeks Astrid recommended before we called the IRS to check on the status of this return. Once Astrid ''filed'' the taxes she was done with us. It was all dumped in our lap. When we called the IRS they had no record of the return. None at all. A frantic call to Astrid and she said she would find out what was going on, and call by the end of the day. We let her know we were pretty freaked out about this, but even so we had to call HER back at 3 p.m. She had the information we needed but I guess decided to wait to call us back. Just another ''We Don't Really Care About You'' message from Barlow & Douglas. This is where the story changes, first the excuse was the paperwork was messed up and it had to do with the power of attorney, wrong address, is what Astrid said. Next, Astrid changed her tune and said it was rejected by the IRS. Which is an OUTRIGHT LIE! When we called the IRS they said they had never even received it. Basically, what happened, is Astrid sat on her lazy butt and never filed my mother's return in the first place. THAT is why the IRS never got it. We told her time is of the essence and she didn't even do the basics. We were told by Astrid when she filed (the second time) that the check from the IRS would be to us within 2 weeks. We only waited 10 days, because Astrid has shown to be wrong (liar) many times before, and the IRS said the check would be ''mailed out'' October 2nd. This would mean a three week wait, not a two week wait, as Astrid had told us. She either has no idea what she's doing, or she's an outright liar. Maybe both. This firm will lie to you, I have no recommendation for you, maybe they all lie. Douglass & Barlow is interested in nothing except the almighty dollar. You will not be treated with respect or as an important client with these people.
