Time to set up a time-lapse camera on this block. The neighbourhood is changing fast. Drift is another example of young food & bev entrepreneurs transforming a crusty old Portuguese dive bar into something great.
It's a bar firstly but they have a daily menu that is small and feisty. Featured on my visit were lots of atypical savoury pub fare. I'm pleased to say it was mostly vegetarian choices as well, with a few chicken options and one deceiving vegetarian sandwich that contained mushrooms in a beef broth gravy. Our server was very good at pointing this out though.
The menu item that stood out the most was the pakoras. They were so light and obviously freshly cooked, it was like tasting this food item for the first time. I hope they keep these on the menu permanently.
The prices at Drift, I must emphasize, are very reasonable and competitive, even for the spirits. The selections of wine and beer is stellar too. Get thee to Drift!
