| - After hearing some buzz on this place we finally got the opportunity to try it this evening. I had seen the menu online and thought it looked enticing and also upscale, so I was surprised when we walked in and the atmosphere was very casual. There are lots of cute and clever pictures and details that give it charm and character, but the tables and seating arrangements aren't exactly comfortable or fine dining.
Our waiter was friendly and got us our drinks promptly, but seemed very busy and to have too much to handle for one guy. We got the cheese and jam app as well as the brussel sprouts and both were good, but not great. The cheese and jam app was $5 during happy hour which was reasonable, but I would not pay full price for it, and the brussel sprouts were $9 and definitely not $9 worth of deliciousness. We ordered burgers with fries, a side salad, and the halibut with corn fritters. The burgers were juicy, but the flavor was not very good (tasted like bad meatloaf); the fries however were excellent. I asked for aioli on the side and for being one of their special sauces it tasted exactly like a blob of mayonnaise. The halibut was well cooked and decent, and the corn fritters were ok. Clever menu, but it is very pricey for the lack of flavor that they serve.
Our waiter was MIA for long periods of time, and got some of our orders a bit off. He corrected it no problem and was very nice, but it took him far too long to get our check among other things. Poor guy just had too many tables and responsibilities to handle by himself. Pig and Pickle is a super cute and clever concept, but it is pretty expensive for mediocre food, casual ambience, and slow service.
