| - I've been in this hospitals before for blood drives, but other than that haven't used their services. My grandma in law fell early AM trying to get up to use a bedside commode and we had her taken to the ER here. She didn't break anything or have any major trauma. The ER was quiet, not ridiculously busy. I feel compared to other ERs we didn't wait as long to be seen, to get some people to run all the test needed and get results back. What would be a 12 hour day at another ER, probably took 5-ish hours. The ER doctor was friendly, but also straight to the point with everything, explaining what you need to know and what his plan is.
It did take a hour or two to get a bed upstairs as they wanted to keep her overnight, observe her and give her a round of antibiotics for a UTI. Last time she had one, it's what made her weak and really confused so it probably contributed to the fall.
Cleanliness is pretty good. The ER was a bit messy with stuff on the floor of her room at first, but after they took her for her CT scan, someone cleaned the floor. Her room upstairs was very clean and I like that all of them looked to be private rooms, not any shared rooms. By the elevators there is a room full of seating and TVs which was nice to take our food to there and go sit and see the view of the city from there.
The nurses were all friendly enough and periodically checked in. We were up in the 8th floor. I think that they could have done better about treating her actively than being told by us what we think she needed like a diaper change. We had to track down someone when her IV bag was low and beeping annoyingly. Once you ask them for something though, they do it. The patient to nurse ratio isn't too bad here as we spied on their white boards and 5-7 rooms were assigned to each nurse. They had occupational therapist come in and check and evaluate grandma during the day and work with a case worker to get her into a rehabilitation as she was not doing well, but not you know, sick enough for a hospital, yet too out of it to also be taken home.
Overall, no hospital is perfect, but it's decent, pleasant enough. It always really boils down to the individuals you deal with and fortunately we've dealt with friendly and helpful people. I live in the neighborhood and I feel good knowing there's a good enough hospital right by the house should anything happen.
