| - So what's a nice gal like me doing in a Strip House like this?
Eating anything but red meat lol
Strip House Steak House (it's like a children's rhyme! One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish...) is inside of Planet Hollywood casino--with parent location(s) in NY. All have the similar red walls, sharp, black contrasting decor, low lighting, and backlit picture frames of old-time celebrities/public figures from way back. If you squint your eyes, you can picture cigarette smoke hanging in the air and imagine Bogie coming around the corner with Lauren. There aren't any strongly-themed steakhouses around me (except maybe the chain El Gaucho in Seattle) and I enjoyed being transported to another time. It didn't feel hokey at all.
Steakhouses are not my thing since I don't eat steak, and I never seem to get the quality of food that my beef-eating crew eat when we do go to one. I find something vegetarian/poultry/fish, pay an arm and a leg, and end up feeling dissatisfed.
Strip House changed all that for me. We started off with bread: cranberry, pretzel, and sourdough. The butter was room temperature WOOT! and in a giant ramekin. I do love butter!
I then had the tuna tartare special app: Spiced raw tuna over avocado (FML) with a cucumber wrap, over cucumber (?)-scented water topped with two different kinds of caviar. HEAVENLY. And BIG! I'm a very expressive person, especially when eating, and it must have been weird to listen to me from another table. My only critique is that the spice was not evenly mixed through the tartare, but all is forgiven :D
For my main dish, I had the Scottish salmon over red quinoa with cream sauce and it may have been the best salmon I have ever eaten outside of me making it at home. I live in Seattle, with amazing seafood, and I eat a TON of fish. BOOM. Some of the top salmon in Vegas? I would never had guessed. It was a thick slab of salmon, and was the perfect doneness where the line between cooked and raw is as small as a splinter on a flea's foot. Flawless. Marvelous.
And though I could reflect on all the great salmon I've had in my life for a while, I know for a fact that the black truffle creamed spinach was the best creamed spinach I ever had. It was a shame that I couldn't take the leftovers back to the hotel with me.
No room for dessert, my bill (alone) was $64, which was almost $10 less than my friend who had the steak and mac and cheese. I cannot believe I had all of that, with the quality it was, and excellent service on top of it.
So on my next trip, I'll save some room in my tummy so I can eat MORE!
