  • I don't know why this place only has 4 stars because I'd give it 10 if I could. Spoon is officially my new favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. Everything from the decor to the service is on point - the food is obviously RIDICULOUS. Honestly, I'd come back here for the bread basket alone. My family and I started with three apps: the small cheese tray ($12), the tomato soup ($9), and the frites ($5). We shared everything because we're all about trying new things! Our cheese tray came with housemade walnut bread. If you get the large platter, you can try all 6 cheese for $18 - the small tray comes with 3. The frites (aka house-cut french fries) were SO good. They came out pipin' hot and were seasoned to perfection. They were accompanied by two sauces: roasted garlic aioli and Spoon hot sauce - both were legit, but I preferred the latter. My favorite starter though was definitely the tomato soup. It was SO creamy and flavorful. Bonus points for the mini oyster po' boy - such a cute and yummy touch! Moving on to entrees, my dad and I both ordered the smoked pork shank, while my mom got the chicken. Both dishes were spot-on. The pork came with white cheddar polenta and stewed summer squash. The meat was so tender, it melted in my mouth. Hands down, the best pork dish I've had in years! My mom's chicken came with cous cous, quinoa, roasted red peppers, and artichokes. I had a bite, and it was scrumptious. They really know how to cook their meat! At this point, we were all stuffed, but once we heard desserts were made in-house, we couldn't resist, ha! It was a hard call - everything looked so good - but we ended up getting the black forest - hazelnut flourless cake with house-made Luxardo cherries, chantilly cream, and white chocolate crumb. The cake was rich but not too sweet. It was the perfect end to a phenomenal meal. Everything was executed and presented flawlessly. For a truly incredible meal, hit Spoon up STAT.
