  • The older I've gotten, the harder it's become to earn a 5 star rating from me. Maybe time has made me more cynical. Or maybe the more experiences I've had- the more I have to compare to, making me more picky. Either way, I went into 'Laughternoon' with little to no expectation. Some random I'd-Never-Even-Heard-Of-Before comedian who also does magic at 3:00 in the afternoon in Vegas? This was going to be an epic flop. But my parents had purchased the tickets and being a lover of free things, I couldn't turn down the chance to tag along. When we arrived we were seated in a dimly lit private room with a small stage, black back curtain, and a couple TVs. The TVs were playing random 'Funny Home Video' reels. They were a good casual way to get the crowd warmed up. The crowd was small on the Wednesday afternoon that I was there- maybe 20 people total. There weren't many laughs and the groups basically talked amongst themselves. No one was really drinking and I had a feeling this guy was going to struggle to get a smile out of these people- let alone an actual laugh. With that being said, Adam (the one and only lead role in this show) came onto stage with a ton of energy. The crowd was small, but within 60 seconds he had every single person smiling ear to ear- if not full blown laughing. The show included light, not-controversial or risqué, comedy that people from all walks of life could appreciate and enjoy. My reserved Midwestern parents were laughing just as hard as my very liberal West Coast fiancé and I. The jokes were scattered throughout a very well-done magic routine. The magic was done with random members of the audience, and although the tricks were small and 'cliché' they were very well done nonetheless. Looking back I still have no idea how he did most of what he accomplished. The very intimate setting with the crowd and how randomly involved the crowd was with his act made his magic feats truly astounding. It wasn't a Criss Angel act- it was better. He's no David Copperfield- and I'd argue that's a good thing. I've been to many magic shows in Vegas, but Adam accomplished his tasks with no fancy mirrors, fog, or wired levitation. And he is by far one of the most talented magicians I've had the pleasure of watching. I was truly blown away by this act. I thought it would be a dud of a show- but Adam is SO underrated. He deserves so much more recognition and advertisement than he receives. I've been to dozens of shows in Vegas- but this was one of my top 3 favorites (mind you he's competing with Cirque and famous musicians). This show is affordable, funny, entertaining, great for people of all walks of life (families, couples, old, and young). The magic is professional and makes you question 'how' long after the show is done. The jokes are funny. The audience participation is some of the most fun in Vegas. Go. Just go. You won't regret spending an afternoon with Adam London. Quick Disclaimer: Adam keeps his comedy 'clean', but I wouldn't say it's totally appropriate for kids under 12. It's a solid PG13 rating with nothing obvious or absolutely risqué- but there is an undertone to some jokes that some parents may feel is a bit too much for younger kids.
